About Paul Kelner
After years of struggling to become parents, my wife and I adopted a child with special needs in 1994. This was such a powerful and enriching experience that I decided to work professionally in the adoption field so I could assist other families in their quest to build or expand their families.
Over the past 15 years, I have assisted hundreds of singles and couples with domestic and international home studies and post-adoption reports. As a therapist, I help individuals and families work through issues that may or may not be adoption-related.
I also speak to groups of prospective parents, such as RESOLVE and Families for Private Adoption, on a range of topics.
Prior to working in adoption, I worked for many years in private industry, non-profit organizations and public and private social service agencies in New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
My professional training includes a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from the University of Maryland's School of Social Work that I completed with highest honors in 1979. I have additional postgraduate training in family systems therapy, individual psychotherapy. and have taken many professional development classes and workshops.
